Toronto Writing Month (ToWriMo) is formally the Toronto, Ontario, Canada region once affiliated with the now-defunct National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) nonprofit. While the official organization has gone under, the challenge to write 50,000 words in November continues on.We offer opportunities for writers to interact with each other virtually and in-person (i.e. parties, write-ins, games nights, Discord communities, etc.).Join us as we endeavour attempting to write 50,000 words together in a month!Who can join ToWriMo?Anyone. We have participants local to Toronto, within the country, and outside of Canada who have joined our events. We range from people who are just getting started with writing to those who have been traditionally published. What can you expect?During November, we will gather online and in-person to write and socialize together. We host events such as:
A gathering in October to inspire participants. Past events have included: the Bata Shoe Museum, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, High Park.
A kick-off party to meet fellow participants
A subway write-in. We sit in a moving train as we write together commuting across a TTC line.
Weekly virtual and in-person write-ins that will either be run casually or with a timed schedule
A half-way party to socialize and possibly write together
A TGIO (Thank Goodness it’s Over) party at Storm Crow Manor
At various events, we’ll have prizes and small goodies to distribute to attendees.Do you have events outside of November? We have a virtual games night and write-ins (online and in-person) that you can attend. Check out our calendar. In April and July, we host Camp ToWriMo, inspired by Camp NaNo, where you can set a personal writing goal (i.e. write 10,000 words or edit 50 pages in a month) and encourage each other to achieve our creative ambitions.
